How to collect and keep track of family contributions for a burial

Updated Sunday, 11 October 2026 · 5 min read

The short answer

Agree as a family who will receive the money, then share one Spray remembrance page in the family group. Relatives contribute by transfer to the page's own account number or by card from abroad, each payment is recorded with a name, and the family Aso Ebi can sit on the same page, so nobody has to keep the list by hand.

  • One receiving account, agreed by the family.
  • Each contribution is recorded with the giver's name.
  • Who has given is hidden from other visitors by default.
  • Relatives abroad can contribute by card.

Why a single record helps

When someone dies, contributions arrive from many directions: transfers to different relatives, cash at the house, money sent from abroad. Weeks later it can be hard to say who gave and what has been spent. A single page with one account number keeps the record in one place, and lets the family give its attention to the arrangements.

  • Everyone sends to the same place.
  • Each transfer arrives with the sender's name.
  • The family can see the total at any time on the dashboard.

Agree a few things as a family first

  • Who receives the money. Payouts go only to the host's verified bank account, so choose someone the family trusts.
  • What the money is for: the burial, the service, the reception, support for the immediate family.
  • Who else helps. The host can add co-hosts to manage the page, and a shop coordinator for the family Aso Ebi. Co-hosts can do everything except payouts.
  • How you will report back. Many families share a short summary once the arrangements are complete.

Set up a remembrance page

  1. Choose Remembrance

Start a page and choose Remembrance. The page uses a quiet design without celebratory colours, and the giving section is called Contributions.

  2. Add the details

The name of the person you are remembering, the date and venue of the service, and a short message from the family. Pick a link.

  3. Turn on contributions

Set suggested amounts if the family has agreed any. Relatives can always give a different amount and add a message to the family.

  4. Add specific costs, if helpful

Wishlist items can stand for parts of the arrangements, such as Burial costs or a Family support fund. Relatives can give towards each one.

  5. Add the family Aso Ebi

If the family is wearing a uniform fabric, add it to the shop with a price, how many you have and a closing date.

  6. Verify and turn on payments

The host confirms who they are and adds their bank account. The page then gets its own account number.

  7. Share in the family group

Share the link with a short, plain message. Spray writes one for you.

Keeping track

  • Every transfer to the page's account number is recorded with the sender's name and the amount.
  • Payments that cannot be matched automatically wait in a review queue, where the host assigns them.
  • Cash handed over at the house can be logged on the dashboard with Log a payment, so the record is complete.
  • Relatives can add a video or photo with their contribution, for a tribute film the family keeps.

Questions

Is it appropriate to collect burial contributions online?
Many families already collect by transfer. A page puts it in one place, with a record of who gave. Keep the message plain and respectful.
Can relatives abroad contribute?
Yes. The host can turn on pounds, dollars, euros or Canadian dollars, and relatives pay by card. It reaches the family's account in naira.
Who can see how much each person gave?
The host and co-hosts, on the dashboard. On a remembrance page, who has given is hidden from other visitors by default.
Does it cost anything?
Setting up the page is free. There is a small fee: ₦100 + 1.5% per payment, never more than ₦2,000, and the host chooses, for each section, whether contributors cover it or it comes out of the payout.
